Mr. Fred goes Red and Green
Posted on November 30th, 2017
Movember is an annual event that involves participants across Canada growing moustaches and other facial hair during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. The primary goal of Movember is to "change the face of men's health" and to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths.
OJSH teacher Eric Frederick took up the challenge this year. Mr. Fred, as he is popularly known, offered to go red and green if our school could raise $500.00 towards Movember. In early November, Mr. Fred began growing a moustache and beard combination known as a Monkey's Tail. If the school community was able to raise $500 during the month of Movember, Mr. Fred said he would colour his hair red and green for December.
To encourage donations, Thursday, November 30 was declared ‘Moustache Day”. Staff and students were encouraged to wear a moustache, make a donation and help Mr. Fred turn red and green for December.
By the end of the day, November 30th, OJSH had raised $526.50 – including a very generous donation from Principal Lobo that put us over the top.
On December 1st, true to his word, Mr. Fred is sposrting glorious red and green hair!
