Mustang Sports Update

The Sr. Boys Volleyball team braved the icy roads Saturday morning on November 17th. and represented our school at zones in Edson. The boys played hard but were not able to qualify for playoffs. Our team of young men had big hearts and they showed it repeatedly. Thanks for putting on the jersey and working hard throughout the season, boys!

For the Sr. Girls, it was a very sad “close but not quite” end of the season.  The Sr. Girls were in Calmar Saturday morning for the snow-delayed zones. With two days worth of games crammed into one day, it was busy. The girls opened the event strong, going 4-0 in the round robin, playing and beating the other 4 teams in the competition back-to-back-to-back-to-back...without a break!  Then, girls were then matched up against the strong Calmar team they had just finished beating 17-15 in the 3rd set in their final round robin game. Calmar was out for revenge after being so close in the previous game and, despite a few push backs, our Mustangs were unable to regain their confidence and ended up losing the crucial semi-final match. Despite being heart-broken, our girls played with pride, beating Devon in the bronze medal match.

In most seasons, a team would be thrilled with the amazing results this team had: 1st in their home tournament, 2nd in Hilltop, 1st in Devon, 2nd in the B side at Rocky Mountain House, 1st in the GCAA, and finally 3rd at zones. The 2018 Sr. Girls are a talented and competitive team, though, and the bronze medal was not the one they wanted to bring back to Onoway. They played their hearts out all season long and represented our school and community with pride.  Way to go girls.
